Typical hazards & measures

• Drug misuse — Enforce a strict no-illegal-drugs policy with visible signage and entry checks. Provide information on the dangers of drug use and have medical staff trained in handling drug-related emergencies. Collaborate with local law enforcement to ensure compliance and swift response to any incidents.
• Water hazards — Clearly mark and cordon off any water features such as lakes, ponds, or rivers to prevent unauthorized access. Station lifeguards or trained staff nearby during the event. Provide adequate signage warning attendees of water hazards and supervise children's areas.
• Muddy ground — Use ground coverings, such as mats or woodchips, in high-traffic areas. Monitor weather conditions and prepare additional coverings or drainage solutions. Provide clear signage to warn attendees of slippery surfaces and encourage the use of appropriate footwear.
• Insufficient sanitation facilities — Provide a sufficient number of clean and well-maintained toilets and handwashing stations, adhering to recommended ratios per attendee. Position facilities in accessible locations and restock supplies like soap and paper regularly. Conduct inspections to ensure cleanliness.
• Lost children — Establish a clearly marked lost and found child area staffed with trained personnel. Implement a wristband system where parents can write their contact information. Regularly announce procedures for reporting and reuniting lost children over the public address system.
