Typical hazards & measures

• Structural collapses — Ensure all temporary structures, such as stages and tents, are erected by qualified professionals following safety standards. Conduct thorough inspections before the event and monitor throughout for any signs of instability. Restrict access to areas beneath or near large structures to authorized personnel only.
• Use of stages — Ensure all stages are professionally constructed and inspected to meet safety regulations. Designate access points for performers and crew only. Conduct regular checks on stage stability and lighting rigs, and provide a clear plan for managing stage collapses or emergencies.
• Electrical hazards — Hire certified electricians to set up and inspect all electrical installations. Ensure all equipment is PAT tested and cables are appropriately covered or elevated to prevent contact with water or foot traffic. Provide residual current devices (RCDs) to quickly cut off power in case of faults.
• Traffic management issues — Develop a comprehensive traffic management plan in coordination with local authorities. Designate specific entry and exit routes for vehicles, provide adequate parking facilities, and employ trained personnel to direct traffic flow. Encourage public transportation by providing shuttle services.
• Muddy ground — Use ground coverings, such as mats or woodchips, in high-traffic areas. Monitor weather conditions and prepare additional coverings or drainage solutions. Provide clear signage to warn attendees of slippery surfaces and encourage the use of appropriate footwear.
