Typical hazards & measures

• Safeguarding — Implement a robust safeguarding policy, including staff training and background checks for volunteers working with children or vulnerable attendees. Establish a clear reporting procedure for safeguarding concerns. Provide a dedicated, visible safeguarding team onsite.
• Inadequate waste disposal — Provide clearly marked bins for general waste, recycling, and hazardous materials throughout the venue. Schedule regular waste collection during the event. Employ cleaning staff to maintain hygiene standards and ensure all waste is safely disposed of post-event.
• Traffic management issues — Develop a comprehensive traffic management plan in coordination with local authorities. Designate specific entry and exit routes for vehicles, provide adequate parking facilities, and employ trained personnel to direct traffic flow. Encourage public transportation by providing shuttle services.
• Alcohol-related incidents — Implement a responsible alcohol service policy, including staff training to recognize and manage intoxicated individuals. Set up designated areas for alcohol consumption and provide ample non-alcoholic options. Coordinate with security to monitor and address any alcohol-fueled disturbances promptly.
• Water hazards — Clearly mark and cordon off any water features such as lakes, ponds, or rivers to prevent unauthorized access. Station lifeguards or trained staff nearby during the event. Provide adequate signage warning attendees of water hazards and supervise children's areas.
