Typical hazards & measures

• Participants with additional needs — Assess the specific needs of participants before the event and provide appropriate accommodations, such as extra supervision, adapted equipment, or alternative rules. Include participants in the planning process and ensure all staff are trained to assist.
• Safeguarding — Ensure all adult supervisors have undergone appropriate background checks and received safeguarding training. Maintain a safe adult-to-child ratio and monitor interactions to ensure appropriate boundaries are maintained at all times. Report any safeguarding concerns immediately.
• Poor group management — Conduct a thorough safety briefing at the beginning of the event, covering rules, boundaries, and emergency procedures. Assign team leaders or referees to monitor and manage the group. Use clear signals, like a whistle, to stop the game when necessary.
• Cold weather conditions — Advise participants to wear layers of warm clothing and check for weather-appropriate attire before the game. Monitor for signs of hypothermia and provide indoor warming areas if necessary.
• Adverse weather — Monitor weather forecasts and communicate conditions to participants in advance. Set up shelters for sudden rain, and provide appropriate weather gear. Postpone or cancel the game if conditions are unsafe.
