Typical hazards & measures

• Camera obstruction by congregation — Position cameras on raised platforms or tripods, mark filming zones clearly with tape, and brief ushers to redirect movement if people block views. Use multiple cameras to ensure continuity if one angle is obscured.
• Overheating of AV equipment — Position equipment racks with airflow on all sides, keep vents free from dust, and service cooling fans. Monitor room temperature during long broadcasts and set auto-shutdown alerts on critical hardware to prevent failures.
• Overreliance on single operator — Rota at least two trained volunteers for each service — one for sound and one for vision. Provide succession planning by training backups to reduce fatigue and prevent service disruption from illness or absence.
• Noise interference or poor sound balance — Sound-check before each service, monitor levels with headphones, and position microphones away from speakers to reduce feedback. Keep spare mics and batteries ready, and adjust mix live if unexpected issues arise.
• Unauthorised access to equipment — Lock all AV kit in cupboards or rooms when not in use, restrict keys to approved staff, and log borrowings. Add asset tags, update inventories, and keep insurance current to cover loss or damage.
