Animal feces
— Instruct participants not to touch animal feces. Clearly mark areas with feces and inform supervisors to handle it if appropriate. No participant should attempt to remove it. Ensure thorough handwashing and sanitation practices are in place after the activity.
Hypoglycemia or hunger
— Encourage participants to bring snacks and ensure a scheduled break for food and hydration. Have a supply of high-energy snacks available for participants who may feel fatigued or hungry. Provide guidance on appropriate snack choices before the event.
Sunburn
— Encourage the use of sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and suggest wearing hats and long-sleeve shirts. Schedule breaks in shaded areas when possible.
Exposure to contaminated water
— Discourage participants from entering or touching unknown water sources. If unavoidable, ensure protective clothing is used and clean water is available for rinsing off contaminants.
Cold weather
— Ensure participants wear layered clothing and are regularly checked for signs of hypothermia. Arrange for indoor rest breaks when temperatures drop.
