Typical hazards & measures

• Collisions with other players — Provide training on spatial awareness and proper positioning on the court. Encourage clear communication among players, especially during fast-paced play. Enforce rules regarding obstruction and contact to minimize unnecessary collisions. Referees should monitor and penalize dangerous play.
• Fire — Ensure fire safety equipment such as extinguishers and alarms are available and regularly maintained. Establish clear evacuation procedures and routes. Conduct fire drills periodically. Educate participants on fire safety protocols.
• Sudden stops or changes in direction — Provide training on proper techniques for stopping and changing direction to reduce stress on joints. Incorporate agility and strength training exercises to improve stability. Encourage proper footwear with good support. Educate players on the importance of warming up muscles before intense activity.
• Spectators — Establish clear boundaries between the playing area and spectator zones using barriers or markings. Educate spectators on appropriate conduct during matches. Employ staff or volunteers to monitor and manage spectator behavior. Provide seating or designated areas for spectators.
• Ability levels — Group players by skill level and age to ensure fair and safe competition. Adjust coaching methods and drills to accommodate different abilities. Provide additional support and training to less experienced players. Promote an inclusive environment that respects all skill levels.
