Typical hazards & measures

• Safeguarding — Implement a comprehensive safeguarding policy and ensure all staff are trained. Conduct background checks on instructors and volunteers. Establish clear reporting procedures for any concerns. Maintain appropriate supervision ratios and never leave minors unattended. Educate participants on their rights and who to contact if they feel unsafe.
• Participants running on the range — Enforce a strict no-running policy on the range. Educate participants on the dangers of running in shooting areas. Supervise the range closely to prevent and address running behavior. Provide clear signage indicating prohibited actions.
• Inadequate spacing between archers — Ensure sufficient distance between archers during training and shooting sessions. Organize shooting lanes to prevent overlap and interference. Educate participants on maintaining proper spacing and awareness of their surroundings. Use markings and barriers to delineate shooting areas.
• Inadequate first aid kit and response — Ensure that a well-stocked first aid kit is readily available on the range. Train staff and instructors in first aid and emergency response procedures. Establish clear protocols for handling injuries and medical emergencies. Conduct regular drills to maintain readiness.
• Equipment or arrows on the floor — Ensure all equipment and arrows are stored properly after use. Educate participants on the importance of keeping the training area clear. Provide designated storage areas for arrows and equipment. Regularly supervise the training area to enforce cleanliness.
