Typical hazards & measures

• Hygiene incidents and outbreaks — Leaders will enforce handwashing before meals and after toilets, isolate unwell pupils promptly, clean touchpoints with suitable disinfectant, and coordinate with the venue to adjust rooming or activities until symptom-free periods elapse.
• Contractor works or venue hazards during stay — Before arrival, the school will request a pause on non-essential works near booked rooms; if works proceed, leaders will agree barriers, quiet hours and safe routes, and brief pupils to avoid contractor zones and report breaches.
• Balcony or window falls — The team will check window restrictors, allocate lower floors to younger pupils, lock balcony access out of hours, keep furniture away from edges, and supervise any photo moments on terraces or external stairs to prevent leaning or climbing.
• Safeguarding and room allocations — The school will separate staff and student rooms, group by age/sex per policy, require door-open conversations or use common rooms for concerns, and ensure two adults are on night duty, with a clear escalation route to the lead.
• Extreme weather or power outage — The school will identify safe internal refuge areas, distribute torches to staff, keep a paper contact and rooming list at reception, and move evening sessions to supervised common rooms while monitoring updates and welfare needs.
