Typical hazards & measures

• Legionella from little-used outlets — On arrival, the school will run taps and showers in unused rooms to flush, avoid inhaling aerosols directly, report any odour or discoloration, and refrain from altering temperature controls or tampering with plant room settings.
• Missing person at night — Staff will keep rooming lists, set curfew and quiet hours, conduct headcounts at lights-out and wake-up, and follow a staged search (room–floor–site–perimeter) with radio comms and escalation to police per policy if not resolved promptly.
• Balcony or window falls — The team will check window restrictors, allocate lower floors to younger pupils, lock balcony access out of hours, keep furniture away from edges, and supervise any photo moments on terraces or external stairs to prevent leaning or climbing.
• Data privacy in shared spaces — Staff will keep group lists secure, avoid displaying names with room numbers publicly, remind pupils to lock doors and protect passcodes, and report any privacy concern to the lead for immediate mitigation with venue management.
• Manual handling of luggage and equipment — The team will plan lifts with trolleys, brief bend-knees/straight-back technique, split heavy loads, keep stairwells clear, and stagger move-ins and move-outs so pupils have time and supervision to carry items safely.
