Typical hazards & measures

• Missing person at night — Staff will keep rooming lists, set curfew and quiet hours, conduct headcounts at lights-out and wake-up, and follow a staged search (room–floor–site–perimeter) with radio comms and escalation to police per policy if not resolved promptly.
• Travel to and from the accommodation — The school will book licensed operators with seatbelts, marshal boarding with high-vis staff, avoid reversing near pupils, do headcounts at every stop, carry a manifest and first-aid kit, and brief a breakdown plan with safe waiting points.
• Hygiene incidents and outbreaks — Leaders will enforce handwashing before meals and after toilets, isolate unwell pupils promptly, clean touchpoints with suitable disinfectant, and coordinate with the venue to adjust rooming or activities until symptom-free periods elapse.
• Radiator, pipe and appliance burns — On walk-round, staff will check guards on hot surfaces, move beds away from radiators, prohibit drying clothes on heaters, and report excessive temperatures for adjustment, using drying racks in ventilated spaces instead.
• Carbon monoxide from boilers or heaters — The school will request servicing evidence, place portable CO alarms if permitted, keep rooms ventilated, forbid covering vents, and escalate any headache or dizziness reports by moving the pupil to fresh air and alerting venue staff.
