Typical hazards & measures

• Fire and ignition sources — Identify flammable products; store in rated cabinets away from ignition; earth metal containers during transfer; ban smoking/vaping; control static and hot works near stores; keep extinguishers suitable for liquids; maintain clear escape routes and test alarms.
• Re-entry intervals and signage — Record product REI and time; post signs at all access points; barrier high-use paths; remove signs only after REI expires and surfaces are dry; brief other contractors and site users; keep a log of sign placement/removal with times and responsible person.
• Container integrity and labelling — Inspect for swelling, corrosion and worn caps; quarantine suspect stock; never decant into food/drink containers; if relabelling is needed, reproduce full product details and hazard info; date on opening; rotate FIFO; remove obsolete or banned products via licensed disposal.
• Storage security and segregation — Keep pesticides locked in a signed, bunded store with lipped shelves; segregate oxidisers, acids, bases and flammables in rated cabinets; restrict keys; maintain stock list; display SDS and emergency contacts; conduct weekly leak/damage checks and record findings for action.
• Dust and airborne particles — Damp down with bowsers or misters; minimise dry handling and drop heights; use on-tool extraction where practicable. Position crews upwind, suspend dusty tasks in high winds, provide P3 RPE and eye protection, and cover or sheet stockpiles. Sweep wet, not dry, to prevent re-aerosolising.
