Typical hazards & measures

• Falling materials — Set up exclusion zones to keep workers and bystanders away from drop zones. Use debris nets or scaffolding with protective barriers. Equip workers with certified hard hats and train them to store materials securely to minimize risk.
• Manual handling injuries — Train workers in proper lifting techniques and provide mechanical aids like forklifts or wheelbarrows. Designate team lifts for heavy loads and organize work areas to minimize the need for repeated handling.
• Working in extreme cold — Provide thermal clothing and regular warm-up breaks. Use windbreaks to shield workers from cold conditions. Train staff to recognize cold-related injuries like frostbite or hypothermia and supply warming stations.
• Falling into excavations — Secure all excavation sites with barriers and warning signs. Use stable access points such as ladders or scaffolds. Inspect excavations daily for changes in stability, especially after weather changes or heavy machinery use.
• Falls from height — Install fixed guardrails and safety nets at edges. Require harness systems with certified anchor points for workers near edges. Train all personnel on safe ladder and scaffolding use. Perform regular inspections of all access equipment.
