Typical hazards & measures

• Fire hazards — Remove flammable materials from work areas before starting demolition. Store fuels and chemicals in designated fireproof containers. Ensure fire extinguishers and trained fire marshals are readily available on-site.
• Falling materials — Set up exclusion zones to keep workers and bystanders away from drop zones. Use debris nets or scaffolding with protective barriers. Equip workers with certified hard hats and train them to store materials securely to minimize risk.
• Confined space entry — Test air quality before entry. Equip workers with confined space entry kits, including ventilators and escape gear. Use a permit-to-work system to track confined space activities and provide immediate emergency support.
• Inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) — Conduct a PPE assessment for each task to identify required items, such as hard hats, gloves, eye protection, and respirators. Provide high-quality, correctly fitted PPE and ensure regular maintenance or replacement of damaged gear. Train workers on proper use and limitations of PPE.
• Exposure to airborne contaminants — Conduct regular air quality monitoring. Equip workers with advanced filtration respirators. Use air scrubbers or exhaust systems to maintain safe breathing zones. Wet down debris and clean areas regularly to reduce particle accumulation.
